During the celebration of the historic sentencing in favor of Sarayaku, Don Sabino, spiritual leader of the Kichwa people of this territory, offered a victory chant to "amazanga," the guardian of the spiritual beings that live in the rainforest.
The chant talks about a bird that comes from the great beyond, and crosses seas, mountains and lakes. With this ritual chant, the people of Sarayaku also seek the blessing of the court ruling - a very special perspective and way of embracing what a decade of litigation has brought about, and mean for their future.
